Restaurant Review: Marty's V Burger
This weekend I got the opportunity to visit Marty's V Burger and sample a bunch of items from their menu. Marty's V Burger, located on E 27th street just off Lexington, is an all vegan establishment known for their McDonald's-esque burgers, wings and fancy af fries. It's a small but cozy establishment, which is only aided by the fact that the staff is incredibly warm and inviting and will make you feel like a part of the family while you dine in.
Lucky for us, Marty hooked us up and let us try all their classic burger options: The Original World Famous Burger, The Shroom Steakhouse Burger and the Crabby Patty, as well as their Cajun Mac and Cheese, Drumstix (BBQ, Thai Chili Jam and Buffalo and Blue "Cheese") and a half and half serving of their Cheesy Fries and Chili Fries.
While I've never had a big mac (growing up I was an extremely picky eater and only ate chicken McNuggets), the Original World Famous is exactly how I imagine it tasting and more. It's a classic burger made with their house made seitan, black beans and brown rice, topped with melted cheese, pickles and a special sauce on a sesame seed bun. The burger was really satisfying to eat and didn't leave me feeling weighed down like I used to feel after eating animal based burgers. The same goes for the Crabby Patty, which was eerily similar to fish sticks both in taste and texture. Personally I wasn't a fan of the Shroom burger but that's more of my own personal distaste (and irrational fear...don't ask) of mushrooms.
And while I absolutely loved the burgers, I have to say that the cheesy fries stole the show for me. The sauce had the perfect tanginess that I feel that vegan cheese is often missing. Growing up, I always ate sharp cheddar cheese and this was really reminiscent of that flavor. I found myself going back to the fries again and again after each course was brought out.
Lastly, I have to highlight the wings, which were also show stoppers. Out of the three options, Thai Sweet Chili Jam stole my heart, followed by the BBQ flavor. The sweet chili had a really great flavor and texture, since the outside was crispy and carmelized.
To sum it all up, I would highly recommend you try out Marty's V Burger if you get the chance! Not only is the food amazing and affordable (for $10 you can get an original burger, a small fry and a fountain drink,) but the customer service is top notch.
I'll definitely be returning when I get the chance! Please let me know in the comments what restaurant I should visit next.
